Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Centre) East Sikkim, was established on 31st March,1982 at Ranipool vide ICAR Sanction Order No. 22-3/82-Edn.II/dated 31/3/1982. It is functioning directly under the administrative control of Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong to disseminate the modern agro-technology to the farmers of the East Sikkim district. The administrative Headquarter is at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam-793103, Meghalaya. The KVK is situated at Ranipool at an altitude of 3000 ft above MSL and falls under Sub-tropical, mid Altitude Humid Zone (2600-5200 ft) in the East Sikkim district. It has two premises; the administrative unit is at Marchak and the KVK demonstration farm is at Saramsa. MANDATE Conducting On Farm Testing (OFT) for identifying location specific technologies in terms of sustainable land use systems. Organizing Front Line Demonstrations (FLD) on recommended technologies for better adoption. Organizing trainings to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural researches on regular basis. Organizing short-term and long-term vocational trainings for farmers, farm women and rural youths for higher production and generating self employment opportunities. OBJECTIVE Planning and conducting survey of the operational area to invent and characterize the physical and human resources with special reference to identifying the technological gaps and training needs of the farming community. Compiling all relevant recommendation/ package of practices suitable for the district to be meaningfully utilized in the training courses and the follow-up extension programmmes. Planning and conducting production-orientated need-based short and long duration trainings, follow-up of extension programmes, farm visits, farmers exposure/ fair, radio/ TV programmes, farm science club etc.
